Read 1 Corinthians 1:1 through 5:13
Peter Marshall, former chaplain of the United States Senate, said, “Today’s Christians are like deep-sea divers, encased in suits designed for many fathoms deep, marching bravely forth to pull plugs out of bathtubs.”
He was speaking of Christians who are focused on outward development yet remain shallow. Even small disagreements and tasks require all their spiritual strength. The apostle Paul saw a problem in how the Corinthians handled disagreements.
Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. . . . You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? (1 Corinthians 3:1,3).
Paul indicated that worldliness is revealed by a person’s attitude toward others. The Corinthians were jealous of each other and reacted to disagreements just like people who were not believers in Christ.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Mature Christians conquer worldly practices.
