A Sure Word

Read Genesis 45:1 through 47:31

Most people are apprehensive about making changes in their routines. Starting a new job, enrolling in an unfamiliar school, or moving to a different city can easily push stress levels higher. But try relocating to a country where the customs are strange and the language is foreign. Local markets do not accept your money. Best friends no longer live around the corner. In fact, you may have moved into an unfriendly neighborhood. Uncertainties are everywhere. Doubts and fears only make matters worse.

Missionaries often face this dilemma with each new assignment. One thing, however, always helps: a word from God.

“I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there” (Genesis 46:3).

Even in the most dire situations, a promise from God makes all the difference. It brings encouragement and increases faith. Although concerns and problems still exist, we are no longer afraid. We know God will bless our efforts. Our lives and families will flourish. God’s promises to us are sure words that never fail.

Thought for Today: Fear is always outmatched by the promises of God’s Word.
