Remember

Read Deuteronomy 19:1 through 26:19

Deuteronomy 24:22 isn’t the Bible verse many people post on social media. It isn’t often the memorized “verse for the day” highlighted on the refrigerator.

But for Israel, it served as a reminder. God wanted His work with the Israelites to remain highlighted and in bold. He wanted His work to be remembered.

There were reasons for His commands. God had brought the nation out of a season of painful slavery. To reinforce that historical miracle, God hoped His people would treat others the way He had treated them.

God instructed the Israelites to give, not just to Him in a comfortable, planned, expected offerings, but to leave gleanings in the vineyard for the strangers, the fatherless, and the widows:

“Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. That is why I command you to do this” (Deuteronomy 24:22).

God planned for His people to share. Giving to others is an act of remembering all that God has given.

CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: Remember what God has guided you through. Allow it to inspire you to serve others.
