Pray for Them

Read  2 Kings 6:1 through 9:37; Luke 22:14–38

“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail” (Luke 22:31–32).

Simon Peter didn’t think he could deny Christ, but he did. Ryan never thought he would deny Christ either, but he did—twice. First he fell away while in the army. Then he came back. He married and had a family, but again he slipped away. Other things replaced prayer and Bible study. A divorce followed and so did drugs, and a prison sentence, but his parents and Christian friends never gave up. They kept praying for him to have a change of heart.

After several years, he did. He repented. He joined a discipleship program, and he made things right as much as possible. Now he leads recovery groups for others who are seeking restoration from the effects of sin.

Those who interceded in prayer for him rejoice that they did not give up. Christians are called to follow in Christ’s steps. This means standing in the gap for those whose faith fails.

PRAYER SUGGESTION: Lord, help me intercede for those whose faith may be faltering.
