Love God First

Read Mark 12:1 through 13:37

Some people get so busy doing God’s work that they neglect Him. They find themselves going through the motions of a church service without actually worshipping. Their daily bible reading becomes a duty instead of a delight. And their Christian service becomes a chore rather than a joy. These people need to return to the basics.

“To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices” (Mark 12:33).

This most important commandment instructs people to love the Lord wholeheartedly. Everything Christians are and do flows out of their relationship with God. The things we do to serve Him are important, but they cannot take the place of loving Him unreservedly.

Putting God first enables Christians to see others as God sees them.

As you try to love God with all your soul, mind, and strength, He equips you to love other people as much as you love yourself.

Thought for Today: Loving God leads to loving others.
