Read John 10:1–21
It was a cool day in the autumn of 1975. The flock of sheep spread from one side of the two-lane Lebanese road to the other. The picturesque view was beautiful with a brisk breeze, the white sheep, green hillside, high blue sky, and bright sunshine. But something was amiss. There was no shepherd—just sheep meandering along while they munched on the grass tops.
However, as we stopped and got out of our car, we were surprised by the sudden, and impressive, appearance of the one responsible for the flock. He had been sitting on the ground, covered in a sheepskin coat, with his back to the wind—and us! Leveling his staff, he turned to face our intrusion. Startled, we managed a weak but friendly wave and quickly retreated. The shepherd had been unseen until there was a threat. Then,
he rose with a vengeance.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).
Jesus may seem absent at times but He is always with us— guiding, providing, and protecting! He is our Shepherd.
Challenge for Today:
Look for the Good Shepherd in your life today. He will rise. You will see Him!
