Read Ecclesiastes 1:1 through 3:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1–28
What happens when a person seeks wisdom and understanding and finds only confusion and futility? Ask King Solomon. He determined to study and explore everything on earth. He wanted to answer the ultimate question—the why of everything.
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 1:14).
Solomon set an ambitious goal. But all of his efforts suffered a foundational flaw. He narrowed his view to what was visible under the heavens. He set out to observe all things and then write of his conclusions, but because of his error, he found only despair and injustice. He needed to take three other things into consideration: God in heaven, things that are invisible, and the future.
The most powerful resources in life are not those things a person can grab onto but the things that take hold of the heart: the love of God and the hope of eternal life in His presence. Without these, life is meaningless.
Thought for Today:
Any worldview that does not consider the invisible is shortsighted.
