Read Luke 7:1 through 8:56
Visit any Sunday School, Bible study, or small group and during their prayer time you’re likely to hear of heartbreaking situations—financial difficulties, people dealing with cancer and other illnesses, teens getting killed in car accidents or gang-related violence, parents lamenting prodigal children, and so on.
When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry” (Luke 7:13).
Troubles are nothing new in this world. The people in Jesus’ day had lives overflowing with trauma too. But Jesus didn’t ever say, “Oh, stop whining and get on with life.” Instead, the Bible tells us “his heart went out to her” in compassion.
That feeling of compassion hasn’t changed. When we face minor troubles or major tragedies, God still lingers nearby, and His heart still goes out to us with compassion and mercy and love. He does not scold us for not trusting Him or tell us to get over it. He understands our feelings, pains, and frustrations. We do not serve a sterile God, but a God with a heart.
Thought for Today:
When we cry, so many times God cries with us.
