Read Leviticus 18:1 through 20:27; Matthew 26:6–30
Gloria, a retiree, met Rosalie, a recent college graduate. When Rosalie mentioned where she lived, Gloria began to relate her experiences living in that city. Gloria continued to talk about her past career, not sure if the young woman would be interested. To Gloria’s surprise, Rosalie listened and asked questions. Gloria felt she had helped and encouraged a young person.
“Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:32).
Once people reach a certain age, some in our society define them as obsolete. Because older individuals were taught to do things by different principles or processes doesn’t mean they cannot add to or understand life today. On the contrary, the stories of those who have gone before can give direction and wisdom.
People should try to seek out those older than themselves so they can learn from those who are older and enjoy their company. Once individuals pass from this life, their wealth of knowledge and experience goes with them.
Thought for Today:
Take time to listen to an experienced voice.
