Read 1 Kings 9:1 through 11:43
How often have we thought that more money would make our lives easier? If we just got a raise, we could pay our bills more easily. If only our house or our car was nicer, we would feel better. If we only had money in savings, we could finally relax.
Yet how often do we hear about people whose lives are ruined by money? Lottery winners often declare bankruptcy because they mishandle their wealth. Celebrities are often in the news because they’re declaring bankruptcy, suing someone, or dealing with severe personal problems.
King Solomon had all the money a person could want, but money couldn’t protect him from trouble. He fell into sin, ruining his life, his relationship with God, and his legacy.
They [foreign women] were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love (1 Kings 11:2).
CHALLENGE FOR TODAY:
Thank God for your relationship with Him and ask Him to protect that relationship.
