Person of Destiny

Read Isaiah 44:1 through 48:22

Isaiah began ministry in the year King Uzziah died, 739 BC. During Isaiah’s lifetime, Assyria was the main threat, not Babylon. No one had any idea that Jerusalem would be destroyed and its people hauled into captivity in Babylon. That would not happen for more than a century!

Yet Isaiah prophesied that God would prepare a king who would allow the Jewish exiles to return to Jerusalem. He was even given the exact name of a king who would not be born for nearly two centuries.

“I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward, says the Lord Almighty” (Isaiah 45:13).

Although Cyrus was not a follower of God, God had a destiny prepared for him hundreds of years before his birth. God was able to name him and specify what his mission would be.

Our lives are not accidents. God has chosen each of us for our time and set a great destiny in place for us. Like Cyrus, you have a future.

PRAYER SUGGESTION: Thank God for your destiny.
