Read Isaiah 63:7 through 66:24; Colossians 1:24 through 2:23
You come to the help of those who gladly do right, who remember Your ways. But when we continued to sin against them, You were angry. How then can we be saved? All of us have become like one who is unclean and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away (Isaiah 64:5–6).
Isaiah rightly understood that human action could not lead to righteousness. He understood that sin leads to destruction and that all have sinned. While God is the One who punishes, Isaiah also saw Him as One who helps. Seeing God’s anger and no remedy for sin, Isaiah asked “How then can we be saved?”
Centuries later, people around the world still face that question. Fortunately, God really does help, and He sent Jesus so that humankind could be saved. Belief in Jesus changes hearts and lives. People turn from doing righteous acts that are like filthy rags to gladly doing right and pleasing God.

God, thank You for making a way for us to be saved.
