Read Psalm 143:1 through 150:6
Every language has a word people shout when they’re in trouble. A Danish fisherman being washed overboard yells, “Hjælp!” A fallen Indonesian dancer cries, “Bantuan!” A Romanian calls out, “Ajutor!” A Spaniard says, “Ayuda!” In every case, the word communicates an immediate need for assistance.
When David called on God to save him from his physical enemies or pull him from the mire of depression, he literally shouted, “Ezrah!” While we do not use the same word as David, we know just what it feels like to be desperate for God’s help.
Lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief (Psalm 143:1)
Whether you have been a Christian for years or you just came to Christ, David’s words still resonate because they perfectly capture the utter helplessness we all face at one time or another. May we never be too proud, or too humble, to call out to God.
Challenge for Today:
Bring to the Lord a need you either thought you could handle or thought was not important enough to take to God.
