Read Isaiah 24:1 through 27:13
A scruffy, unwashed man stands on the side of the road holding a sign, begging for help from any stranger who might feel kindness or at least pity. A young mother stumbles down the street, clinging her baby to her side, as she wonders where she can go for help since her child’s father threw her out on the street.
We pass the poor and needy each day as we drive down the road. The faces are so common that many of us no longer even notice, but God sees all of them.
You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall (Isaiah 25:4).
God wants to be their refuge. He wants to help them, and He wants to activate the people of His church to be moved with compassion to take action and introduce them to a God who will be their refuge. God’s concern for the poor must become our concern for the poor.
CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: Help someone in need, and reveal to them God’s love and care.
