Rules, Rules, Rules

Read Leviticus 14:1 through 15:33

Mrs. Simpson called outside to her children, “Come inside. It is time for dinner!”

A moment later, the back door flew open and two muddy youngsters exclaimed, “We want to stay outside!”

But their mother would have none of it. “You two go clean up, and use soap. Hurry! Your grandparents are here, and I’m ready to put the food on the table.”

The Lord said to Moses, “These are the regulations for any diseased person at the time of their ceremonial cleansing, when they are brought to the priest” (Leviticus 14:1).

Most people recoil from being told what to do, but all relationships have rules—some spoken, some quietly understood. Rules provide boundaries.

The regulations God gave to Moses were ultimately intended for the same purpose—to enrich lives and relationships with Him. The same is true today. God’s rules and requirements only seem overbearing and tedious when His motivation is forgotten and people have strayed.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: God’s boundaries are evidence of His love.
