Read Psalms 110:1 through 118:29
God can soothe our wounded spirits when we praise Him. This is a true mystery. Suffering may pierce us with financial reversal, spousal abandonment, debilitating sickness, and other devastations. We may find ourselves tossed into uncharted territory; even Christians can experience emotional numbness, not knowing how to proceed.
While waiting for direction we can choose to do what the Psalmists did: sing and declare hope. We can sing with broken hearts because God gives us songs in our battles. We can declare our winning status not because we are in denial, but because God has promised victory. The words of Psalm 111 can redirect our thoughts where they should remain.
Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them (Psalm 111:2).
If you are devastated by trials, read this psalm aloud. List and ponder the Lord’s great works for humanity and for you. Acknowledge the peace you will begin to feel. Your trials are only temporary. God has provided redemption for you.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
We are never called on to endure more suffering than Christ experienced.
