Read Luke 11:14–36
“Blessed . . . are those who hear the word of God and obey it” (Luke 11:28).
Jesus taught frequently about obedience. In today’s passage, He reiterated the message from Luke 8:19–21 regarding His mother and brothers. Those who “hear the word of God and obey it” can have a personal relationship with Jesus and be part of God’s family.
Several other promises for those who obey are highlighted in John’s Gospel. Here, Jesus underscored the connection between obedience and love; those who love Him obey His commandments (John 14:15). When we obey Him, we will dwell in His love (15:10). Through this loving relationship, we will experience overflowing joy (15:11). Another blessing is the peace Jesus gives to obedient believers (14:27). This peace is far better than the counterfeit “security” the world offers.
Blessings on the life of obedience are truly the reward of the righteous!
