Faithful with the Message

Read Luke 19:1 through 20:47

He called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. “Put this money to work,” he said, “until I come back” (Luke 19:13).

Jesus’ followers hoped that He would overthrow the Roman government and establish His kingdom. To let them know that this wouldn’t happen soon, Jesus told a parable of a king who appointed servants to care for his property in his absence. Two servants invested the money and increased their yield. They were rewarded. Another servant simply hid the king’s money. This man received a sharp rebuke.

Until Jesus returns, we are entrusted with His property—the message of redemption. As in the parable, Christ finds varying degrees of commitment to the task. Some believers don’t take Jesus’ message seriously. Others make their lives revolve around the message.

It is good to ask ourselves how well we’re handling the property God has entrusted to us. Jesus rewards faithful servants.

Thought for Today:

The eternal destiny of others depends upon how seriously you take Jesus’ message to “put this money to work.”
