Read 2 Samuel 8:1–14; Psalm 60:1–12
Jenna’s life seemed to be unraveling. She lost her job, her car broke down, and her sister was mad at her—again. It just didn’t seem fair. I love God, she thought, so why am I experiencing all this difficulty? These thoughts fed her feelings of self-pity. For 2 days she did nothing but sit at home. However, on the third day, Jenna picked up her Bible.
The Lord gave David victory wherever he went (2 Samuel 8:6).
“Lord,” she prayed, “David had enemies everywhere but he didn’t sit around and mope. He got up, faced his enemies, and fought. And You gave him victory. Please go with me today as I fight the battle of unemployment. You know it’s not easy for me, but please give me victory!”
Sometimes life’s circumstances attack us like enemies, trying to steal our peace, destroy our hope, and take us captive to fear. However, it is not the situations that are our worst enemies, it is our reactions to them. When life seems dark, these are the times we must raise our banner of faith and decide that we will not be defeated. Like David, we must fight.
Thought for Today:
God promises victory in battle, but expects us to join in the fighting.
