A seamstress knows the importance of a hem. Without it, the most beautiful piece of cloth, if it is prone to raveling, would be ruined. Is there anyone who has not pulled a loose thread only to have an entire hem unravel?
While, of course, God hears us whatever time of the day we go to Him in prayer, there is surely no better way to start the day than with prayer. Through prayer we find the strength we need not to unravel in the midst of the day’s pressures.
The psalms are a powerful example of the important place prayer had in David’s life. They also serve as an example for our own prayer life.
David’s psalms often follow a similar pattern. In many of them, he began his prayers by laying his burden before the Lord, then pleading for His help. Because David had learned to wait on the Lord and listen for His response, the psalms move from petition to praise, from despair to hope, and from sadness to joy.
Thought for Today:
