Reflection

Read Psalms 71:1–24; 89:1–52

In Psalm 71, the Psalmist reflects on who God has been to him during the course of his life. During his infancy the Psalmist learned of God’s reliance. In his youth, God revealed himself to the Psalmist as his hope, confidence, and teacher. At the age of his writing the psalm, the Psalmist saw God as his salvation, refuge, and righteousness. The Psalmist then looked beyond his life and recognized God as the Restorer of Life.

The Psalmist desired to pass on his knowledge to the next generation (Psalm 71:18). He made a promise to declare the Lord’s deeds and power through praise. Praise gives honor to God and witnesses to the next generation.

Everyone goes through seasons where a different character attribute of God becomes more real. In sickness a person seeks the Healer. During financial trial, a person looks to the Provider. Like the Psalmist, decide each day to praise God as you learn more about Him. Your praise witnesses to those in your circle of influence of what you’ve learned about God. Take the time to reflect through the years of your life and see what God has taught you about himself.

Challenge for Today:
