Read Job 23:1 through 31:40
Visitors to a gold refinery were amazed at the incredible change that had taken place in the raw, unrefined ore to produce the gleaming gold samples on display. The tour guide informed tourists that gold is one of the most valuable metals known. Because it does not corrode, it is valued for its durability. Gold is not only used for legal tender, but is also used for jewelry and ornaments, dental devices, and intricate parts.
Although Job did not understand the reason for his afflictions, he was aware of the eventual valuable result:
“He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold” (Job 23:10).
To be of the most value, gold must be refined to rid it of unwanted impurities. Likewise, God often chooses to permit His children to experience difficult tests and trials in order to help them achieve the quality of character He desires in them. God understands the way we take and He has promised us the grace we need to follow Him in obedience.
Thought for Today:
“[The Lord] said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you’” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
