Reaching a Conclusion

Read  Numbers 11:1 through 13:33

God instructed Moses to send men to explore the land of Canaan. Using spies in this way was common in that culture; people wanted to know about the land they hoped to enter. But this wasn’t just a typical investigation. This was a next step—a long-awaited step—for God’s people to enter the land He had set aside for them.

Would the twelve leaders reach conclusions about the land based on God’s promises or based on what their eyes could see? Caleb saw hope and declared a victory; ten other spies saw defeat.

But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are” (Numbers 13:31).

They couldn’t stop talking, not about the fruit and beauty of the land, but about the size of people in the land.

In today’s world, people still face huge decisions. Fear often rules over faith. For the Israelites, God could give them victory no matter the size of their foes. The key was to be led by Him. The same is true today.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Compare the situation’s size to God.
