Read Deuteronomy 1:1 through 2:37
Little children love to be picked up and held close. One of the first words Janet’s two daughters learned was “up.” When she was washing dishes when they were toddlers, they would clutch her leg, waiting until she was finished so that she could pick them up again.
Both of these daughters (now grown) have been on mission trips—to Mexico and to Romania. Wherever they have gone, the children reach up their arms to be carried, close and secure.
The need to feel safe and secure is universal. God knows our needs and wants to meet them. Moses reminded his people:
There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place (Deuteronomy 1:31).
The Lord wants to carry us, just as He did the Israelites through the desert. We need to let Him. When disappointments and problems come, we need to draw closer to Him instead of turning away from Him. The choice is ours, to either ignore Him or to get close to Him in prayer.
Challenge for Today:
Focus on the Lord’s strength and let Him “pick you up” and carry you.
