Keeping Promises

Read Genesis 21:1 through 22:19; Matthew 6:19–34

When God promised Abraham a son, he and Sarah both laughed at the idea that they might experience such an event in their old age. (Genesis 17:17; 18:12). But Sarah became pregnant by her husband. At the end of nine months, she gave birth to a son at the very time God said she would. Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born. God kept His promise.

Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him (Genesis 21:1–2).

When God makes a promise, we can always count on Him to follow through. He isn’t like humans. Sometimes people make promises they don’t keep. Maybe there are extenuating circumstances that keep people from their commitment, or maybe they fail to see the importance of keeping their word. Whatever the reason, failed promises disappoint others. We will never be disappointed by God. He keeps His promises.

Challenge for Today:

Trust God to keep His promises.
