Jesus Is Our Peace

Read Luke 19:41 through 20:8

“The King’s Peace” is a phrase that first appeared during the reign of Richard I in 1195. Peace and quiet was seen as the responsibility of the king, and anyone who disturbed the peace of the people within the king’s realm was answerable to him. Keeping the peace was considered a royal function and the general peace of the kingdom was under the king’s authority.

On Palm Sunday Jesus rode through the streets of Jerusalem where He was proclaimed king. The people rejoiced. But Jesus wept because the peace He brought to the world had not been received by the world. Weeping, Jesus said:

“If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes” (Luke 19:42).

Every person who accepts Jesus Christ experiences peace with God through Him. This is not mere political nor social peace, but the state of being a friend of the King of kings.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

We often speak of knowing peace as if peace were a person—and so it is, for those who know Jesus,

the Prince of Peace.
