Humility, the Great Virtue

Humility, the Great Virtue

Read 腓 Philippians 1:1 through 4:23

Jill was running late for class and the hallways were too crowded to easily maneuver. Suddenly, her arm caught the edge of a door, causing her to drop all her books on the floor. Humiliated, Jill bent down to pick up her belongings as fellow students ignored her, and did not offer to help.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others (Philippians 2:3,4).

Jill was suffering a moment of embarrassment most of us can relate to. Though many were available to help her gather her belongings, nobody took the time to show humility by kneeling beside her to help bear the load of her embarrassing experience.
As Christians, it is our duty to be humble servants to each other, to be willing to bear another’s burden. After all, a small showing of compassion may be all it takes to open closed doors in people’s hearts for God to make a mighty entrance.

PRAYER SUGGESTION:

Ask God to help you be a humble servant.
