Read 2 Corinthians 1:1 through 4:18
Shawn surveyed the devastation the flood had left behind. The mission church on which he had labored so hard lay in total shambles. His wife, Carol, expressed her sadness: “Honey, we came here in response to God’s call. I wonder why He has allowed our work to be in vain?”
Shawn responded, “I must confess that the same question came to my mind, but I guess God did not call us to succeed—only to obey.” Then he had a sudden thought: “The church building is gone, but the church itself is alive and well!”
We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Pride often tempts us to focus on that which we can see with our eyes, that which is actually temporary. We enjoy being able to see the tangible results of our labor. However, God’s Word cautions us to concentrate on that which is eternal.
Thought for Today:
The worth of our effort is not measured by man’s standards, but rather by God’s eternal values.
