Healthy Living

Read Proverbs 3:1 through 4:27; 1 Corinthians 5:1–13 27

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones (Proverbs 3:7–8).

To achieve good health, it may seem wise to follow the advice of “experts.” But most experts overlook the biggest problem—a lack of relationship with God. The apostle, Paul put it this way, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).

Without continual guidance from the Creator, how can people know what is healthy, wise, and true? Certainly, those who “fear the Lord and shun evil” have a deeper understanding than those who rely on human wisdom. And, while Christians still face health problems, the Lord strengthens all believers through the things they suffer. Their resulting spiritual health exceeds anything worldly people can experience, since those who seek God gain eternal vitality.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Godliness brings health to the human body and spirit.
