Read 2 Samuel 23:1 through 24:25
Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab’s best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion (2 Samuel 23:20).
When we read about great warriors and heroes from the Bible, it seems like we’re reading a fairy tale about fictional characters who had superhuman strength to accomplish impossible feats. But the Bible is no fairy tale. These are real stories of real people. God touched them and used them, and gave them abilities to do great things for Him.
God has gifted you to do great things for Him as well. While He probably will not call you to go “down into a pit on a snowy day and [kill] a lion,” He will certainly call you to do something else. Maybe He will ask you to lead a small group, witness to your neighbor, or volunteer at a shelter.
Whatever God asks you to do, be obedient. He equipped you with gifts, abilities, and desires, and He sent His Holy Spirit to help.
Prayer Suggestion:
Pray that God will direct your steps, that He will show you what He wants you to do, and that He will help you as you are obedient to Him.
