Constant Faithfulness

Read  Psalms 71:1–24; 89:1–52

God’s faithfulness is the secure foundation we walk on. It is the reason we can go on singing when our earthly expectations are dashed on the rocks below us. God established His faithfulness in heaven, a place not subject to change.

Throughout the psalms, songs of God’s faithfulness were sung by people who declared Him to be faithful through life’s deepest trials. Although the Psalmist lamented Israel’s troubles, and it appeared that their covenant with God was broken, he knew that God’s love would not fail.

I will declare that your love stands forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself (Psalm 89:4).

Much later, another poet standing on God’s eternal promise wrote the beloved hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” Thomas O. Chisolm, an insurance salesman, didn’t make much money because of his lifelong struggle with health problems. Yet, Chisolm, like the Psalmist, proclaimed his Lord faithful. And so have the many congregations who have sung this beloved hymn. God’s unchangeable faithfulness will see us through our deepest trials.

PRAYER SUGGESTION:

Lord, when trials come, help me to remember that Your faithfulness remains constant.
