Read Revelation 19:1 through 22:21
In these last chapters of the Book of Revelation, John records the end of time. The beast, false prophet, and Satan are cast into the lake of fire. The New Jerusalem descends, and saints take up residence in their new home. But before John closes this book he records the final invitation.
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life (Revelation 22:17).
From Genesis to Revelation the invitation of our faithful God is “Come.” God told Noah to come into the ark with his family (Genesis 7:1). Isaiah cried out, “Come, all you who are thirsty” (Isaiah 55:1); and Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened” (Matthew 11:28).
To the sinner, Jesus says, “Come.” To the backslider, Jesus says, “Come back.” To the Christian Jesus says, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown” (Revelation 2:10).
CHALLENGE FOR TODAY: As we begin this new year, pray that there will be many who will respond to the invitation to “Come” presented by the gospel message.
