A Festival

Read  Leviticus 23:1 through 27:34

The house was filled with the noise of laughter. The rooms carried the aroma of food. Great-grandparents held their great-grandchildren. A father finally saw his son after months in another country. A grandmother carried her grandson for the first time. Everyone was taking pictures and telling stories. This family celebration was an experience they would never forget.

“Celebrate this as a festival to the Lord for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month” (Leviticus 23:41).

Festivals are unique in each culture, but they are important for everyone. God wanted Israel to celebrate and make that observation a tradition. The continuing process of remembering God and His works, of highlighting God for seven days in the seventh month, was like a family reunion. They recalled history. They celebrated provision. God hopes His family members today will also choose to celebrate.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Celebration is more possible for those who notice God’s wonder in various situations.
