An Eternal Thirst

Read John 1:19 through 4:54

Jamie wanted to plant a flower garden. She purchased some colorful plants, planted them, and watered them generously. After several hot days, Jamie realized that she had not watered the flowers for some time and ran outside to check on their progress. Though not quite dead, most of the flowers had wilted and many blooms had fallen from their plants.

Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst (John 4:13,14).

Jamie realized the hard way that plants need continual care and nourishment to survive. Similar to plants, we have spiritual needs that require attention. We seek meaning and happiness wherever we can, whether it is through others, our jobs, drugs, possessions—the list goes on. When one of our needs goes unmet, our spirits begin to wither, we lose our focus in life, and we grow thirsty for fulfillment.

Though the world may offer easy, temporary solutions, Jesus offers eternal answers to those who are willing to seek Him.

Prayer Suggestion: Ask the Lord to satisfy your spiritual needs with his everlasting waters.
