Read 2 Kings 21:1 through 25:30
“I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place” (2 Kings 22:20).
This word was given by God to Josiah near the middle of the record of his reign as king of Judah. On the surface, it sounds pretty discouraging. God told this young and spiritually energetic king that, due to its unrelenting wickedness, divine judgment on his nation was inevitable. What was Josiah’s response? Did he throw up his hands in despair and quietly make his way to the end of his days? No way. He put his energy into an evangelistic campaign that shook the foundations of his culture.
Christians today live in a similar situation. Like ancient Judah, the nations of today are on the fast track to judgment. God has fixed a day when all people will stand before Him. True, every believer is promised resurrection and eternal life. However, God expects us to be like Josiah. We need to shake our world with an uncompromising proclamation of the good news of Christ. Let this world’s future doom spur you to rescue lost souls.
Challenge for Today:
Keep serving God and being an example to others, no matter how godless your surroundings become.
