Read Isaiah 9:1 through 13:22
In the United States, about 10,832 babies are born daily—about 451 per hour, which works out to between seven and eight babies per minute. Unless the child is born to someone whose name we instantly recognize or under extremely unusual circumstances, his or her birth doesn’t make the news. A child being born is simply the natural progression of things.
In Isaiah 9, we discover that not only was a child born (a natural event), but a son was also given (a supernatural occurrence). In His love for us, God reached out to humanity by giving us His Son, who came to Earth with a very specific purpose—to save the world.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, . . . And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
Only God’s Son—the one He gave us—can carry all these titles that encompass every facet of our lives. We need wisdom, we need strength and protection, and we need peace. Only He can meet those needs.
Challenge for Today:
Which of my Savior’s titles do I need to remember and rely on today?
